THE NEW HARDY 32DS
The new 32DS is viewable by prior appointment at Fox's Marina in Ipswich for the next few months.
She has a totally new interior layout, beautifully executed in American white oak, and is powered by twin Yanmar 180hp engines giving 20 knots yet economical running. A great Andrew Wolstenholme design, carefully updated yet still with all the attributes of sea-keeping ability and build quality for which Hardy’s are famed.Click here for the Hardy 32DS trial information
If you would like to arrange to take a look at her please get in touch.
Her buyers were attracted by the rugged, purposeful look of the Andrew Wolstenholme design, and her sea-keeping abilities. Hardy’s semi-custom build, allowing considerable scope in layout, styling and detailing changes, has given them the opportunity to have a strong influence on the yacht in every respect.
They were looking for a very high standard of comfort for two couples, with the ability to sleep up to six occasionally. Light, space and storage were high on the priority list. Styling to be modern, but not ‘glitzy’.
Fitted with twin 800hp MAN R6s, she will achieve around 24/25 knots max and give significantly more economical cruising that the twin MAN 1200hp installation on hull 01. Her fuel capacity, in the region of 6-7,000 litres, allows for serious passage making without the need for regular refueling pit-stops. A fuel polishing system will be fitted, rated at 1500 litres/hour. The yacht will be fitted with Sleipner stabilizers, Onan 17.7 kva generator, and fully air conditioned.
External changes: Hull ports are now frameless and rectangular, with four large vertical hull windows into the owner’s stateroom (with opening sections both P & S)
The aft deck has been altered, with gateways either side of the transom, one to the hydraulic passerelle and the other for easy access to the bathing platform. The platform allows for storage of a jet-ski, lifted on and off by the passerelle. The aft deck layout gives a much improved dining area, with moulded seat across the transom plus a teak table and removable chairs. This area can be totally enclosed by a windowed canvas screen.
On the flybridge, the forward windscreen has been raised to give increased wind protection, and particular thought is going into the selection and mounting of the helm seats and the adjustable wheel. The mast is replaced by an arch, while the mast base is fitted with wet bar, fridge and electric BBQ. The aft section of the flybridge has a very generous U-shaped GRP settee unit (3m long) running fore and aft on the starboard side, with a hi-lo table, allowing it to convert to a cushioned sunbathing area. A crane is positioned outboard of this, allowing stowage of the RIB across the aft end of the flybridge. Removable biminis cover both the fore and aft flybridge areas.
The yacht retains the high and secure bulwarks around the decks.
As she will regularly be used two-handed, there is a command station on the aft deck with EC300 engine, bow and stern thruster controls, plus a powered mooring capstan.
Her hull is mid-dark grey and protected by heavy duty fendering, and with a white superstructure.
Accommodation changes: On the upper accommodation deck she has the wheelhouse, galley, dining saloon and lounging saloon. The wheelhouse area is fitted with sprung seats, carefully chosen and positioned for comfort. The adjustable helm is to starboard, with a dedicated chart area opposite. Custom switch panels are being fitted and great care taken with the look of all control panels including the full array of Raymarine electronics. Access to the side decks is via doors P & S. Also in the wheelhouse/upper saloon area is the galley, which is comprehensively equipped with electric cooking, refrigeration and dish-washer, and backed up by a utility area in the vast aft lazarette fitted with washing machine, dryer and a long-term freezer. Opposite this is a raised dining area, giving those seated a panoramic view.
Down a couple of steps to the lower saloon is a U-shaped settee with coffee table, opposite which are two movable recliner chairs with a retractable TV in the sideboard between the stowed position of the chairs. A fully equipped bar area with fridge, icemaker, and stowage for bottles and glasses is fitted. The side windows, previously three each side, are now two larger ones both sides to increase light, and the fully glazed doors to the aft deck may be folded away to incorporate the saloon and aft deck into one huge social area.
On the lower accommodation level, the lobby area includes a storage locker for bedlinen and towels, plus a built-in dehumidfier to keep the accommodation fresh and dry when the yacht is not in use. The owner’s stateroom becomes the full width of the hull, and flooded with light via the four windows. She has a very generously proportioned owner’s head with walk-in shower, opposite which is a large walk-in wardrobe, supplemented by a further two hanging lockers in the stateroom. Forward there is another large double cabin, the berth of which can ‘scissor’ open into two singles. This cabin has direct access to the guest head/shower. She will also have a further smaller guest cabin/storage area.
The interior finish is likely to be in grey, quarter-sawn, horizontal grained American oak, complemented by wenge trim and different ones of fabric panelling. The interior layout and styling is by Chris Lock Yacht Design, with plenty of input from the yacht’s owners.
The Hardy 62 is a semi-custom yacht, and we welcome the opportunity to work with buyers to meet, and hopefully exceed, their wishes in terms of layout, equipment and finish. The excellent sea-keeping, sturdy construction, exemplary engineering standards, and top quality fit-out are, however, non-negotiable!

Hardy 40DS-01 leaves for London 2014.
On Sunday 22nd December 2013 Hardy 40DS-01 left the build yard in North Walsham bound for the London Boat Show 2014. Wrapped against the worst of the weather the new 40DS still shows her wonderful lines and striking profile.
The yachting press are already giving excellent reviews for the boat as seen in the latest Motor Boat & Yachting – “This is the first Hardy to be fully conceived and built under the auspices of new owner Windboats and it looks like being a match made in Heaven. It is a Hardy through and through but there’s a modernity to the styling the likes we haven’t previously seen from the Norfolk yard. We think it looks cracking and the Hardy boys should take plenty of shoe covers to the show because there will be a fair few people keen to get on board and have a look around.”
Please come and see us in person to view what has impressed the press so much. We are on stand A260 where we will be proud to show you around our wonderful new boat.
The Hardy 40DS is on track for its debut at The London Boat Show in January 2014.
The construction of this boat involved considerable changes to the 42 hull mould tool, enabling us to offer single as well as twin screw versions. We have also produced a completely new superstructure and aft deck as well as a new design interior complete with contemporary styling.
What has slowly emerged over the last few months is certainly going to turn more than a few heads. We have decided not to publish any pre-unveiling photographs, but to let the boat speak for itself at the Show.
It would not matter what superlatives we came up with at this stage, the proof will be in the unveiling and we are sure others will pass comment on what we have achieved.
A warm welcome to the Hardy 40 DS at the London Show is assured and we look forward to seeing you there to discuss your future boating plans. We can be found on stand A260 .
We are very pleased to announce that the Hardy 62 has been awarded as a finalist for the 2014 Motor Boats Award. The 62 falls into the Trawler Yachts and Aft Cabin category with the winner announced during the London Boat Show 2014.
This nomination goes alongside the continuing and well deserved accolades the boat is receiving since its debut at the Southampton Boat Show.
As the most bespoke model in the Hardy range we have already drawn up differing sets of plans to suit prospects needs, ranging from a full width aft cabin to moving of galley into the main deck house area to accommodate another cabin below.
